Show Up Fitness – Where Great Trainers Are Made

Muscle of the Day: Supraspinatus (First S of the Rotator Cuff muscles SITS.) Superior = above, inferior = below. “Supra” means it is above in reference to.

the 17-muscles of the shoulder begin with the SITS of which the first S is the Supraspinatus.

Origin: Supraspinous Fossa (see below on the Scapula)

In order to become a GREAT trainer, you need to understand anatomy. Learn the foundation of movement, nutrition, and how to get clients, and then gain experience training clients through internships. Show Up Fitness

Insertion: Greater Tuberosity of the Humerus

Action: (1) Stabilize the head of the humerus into the glenoid cavity, (2) Abduction in the frontal plane. (stabilization of the glenohumeral joint is the primary role of each rotator cuff muscle).

The humerus is one of the four shoulder bones. The clavicle, scapula, and sternum are the other three.

The (P)reHab Guys have a great video library to help with common injuries to the rotator cuff muscle supraspinatus and much more. Read more about that here.
