What you’ll learn and be able to confidently describe upon completion when you SHOW UP for a 2-month internship in Atlanta or Santa Monica:
1.Describe and demonstrate the necessary steps to performing health/fitness screening, including completion of ACSM risk stratification (Coronary Artery Disease - CAD), health history questionnaires, Needs Analysis via NSCA, and obtaining medical clearance when appropriate.
2.Knowledge of assessments skills: measure HR, RPE, blood pressure; locate body sites for circumference measurements; assessments of cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Interpret and use this information to develop an exercise prescription.
3.Display knowledge of cardiopulmonary, metabolic, and musculoskeletal risk factors or conditions that may require consultation with medical personnel before exercise testing or training.
4.Discuss the physiologic basis of the major components of fitness: cardiovascular, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition.
5.Define related terms such as isotonic, isometric, concentric, eccentric, hypertrophy, sets, repetitions, size principle, joint articulations, and identify major muscles.
6.Demonstrate a robust repertoire of exercises that target major articulations/muscle groups.
7.Demonstrate the ability to select and/or modify exercises targeting major articulation/muscle groups according to an individual’s level of fitness, objectives, and health status.
8.Knowledge of the physiological principles related to warm-up and cool-down.
9.Knowledge of the principles of fitness (SAID) and how to use them in exercise programming.
10.Knowledge of the physiologic principles involved in promoting gains in muscular strength and endurance.
11.Describe the proper sequence and components of exercise prescription for various types of resistance exercise, to include warm-up, cool-down, frequency, volume, duration, intensity, and exercise.
12.Communicate effectively and demonstrate leadership techniques with exercise participants/clients with regard to the purposes and procedures associated with client screening, assessment, exercise testing and training.
13.Knowledge of the risks and benefits associated with exercise training in children, adolescents, older adults, pregnancy, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, chronic back pain, and apparently healthy individuals.
14.Demonstrate the ability to modify exercise test protocols and exercise prescriptions (intensity, duration, frequency, type) based on age, objectives, level of fitness, and/or health status.
15.Demonstrate proper technique on various pieces of equipment utilized to develop musculoskeletal fitness (resistance bands, free weights, body weight), flexibility, and cardiorespiratory fitness (treadmills, stationary cycles, field tests).
16.Apply scientific knowledge to the programming, application, and training of clients with the primary goals of improving muscular performance and cardiovascular fitness.
17.Knowledge of the role of carbohydrates, fat, and protein as fuel and their appropriate kcals and the effects of diet and exercise methods/combinations on modifying body composition.
18.Knowledge of behavioral and motivation strategies to enhance and facilitate behavioral change.
19.Knowledge of feedback, goal setting and communication skills to enhance training sessions and foster behavioral change.

How do I get my SUF-CPT?
Upon completion of the 2-month internship, you will be tested in person on the ability to locate the 17-muscles of the shoulder and 20-muscles of the lower body, 8-core movement patterns and their agonist / synergist, and be able to design a workout plan for an avatar scenario, all taken verbally within 15-minutes.
