We're the only Personal Training school that offers LIVE personal training with REAL clients. You'll learn how to be a personal trainer in the classroom via Chris Hitchko, CSCS, but you'll also gain experience training people through a 4-month internship at Show Up Fitness Santa Monica.

CLASS SIZE: Class sizes are restricted to a maximum of 15 students
NEXT CLASS: July 10th @8am
Times: Class hours = Monday - Thursday 8am - 11am. Class begins at 8am - 11am at 1810 14th street. Class will consist of PowerPoint slides, form analysis, class discussion, and textbook work.
Lab hours / workouts = Monday - Thursday 12pm - 1-3pm. When the 60-90-minute workout is finished, you can leave, shadow (first month), or train clients apart of the internship.
Academy Length: 4-months; 400-hours of classroom hours, and over 200-hours of possible internship hours at Show Up Fitness Santa Monica. 4-months of experience and an internship on your resume looks amazing.
Cost: Down payment of $500-$1000 & monthly payments available. Will not be able to take nationally recognized certification until course is paid in full. Schedule an appointment to learn more.
The 3-month Refresher Course – This class is for certified personal trainers trying to take their knowledge to the next level. You will learn advanced anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and kinesiology, with the addition of business development and recent scientific literature/position stands.
What happens if I miss a class? All of the slides are sent out via email, and reviewed weekly via quizzes. The most successful students that we've had are the ones who SHOW UP most consistently. With that being said, life happens, sickness, vacations, and accidents- you'll be held accountable for getting the information that you miss.
Who teaches the class? Chris Hitchko has 12 years of personal training experience, taught personal trainer for seven, writes for nationally recognized organizations, graduated over 700+ students into top tier personal trainers, and runs two personal training gyms.
Is there financial aid? No
Can I make payments? Yes. If you pay the whole tuition upfront, you'll receive $500 off. You will not be able to register for the NASM/ACSM/NSCA certificaiton until the course is paid for.

Anatomy and Kinesiology Do you know the 17 muscles of the shoulder? What about the 40 muscles around the hip joint? At The Show Up Fitness Academy, you’ll learn the 13 systems of the human body, and how movement transpires (bio-mechanics). It’s paramount to understand the comprehensive dynamics between the skeletal system, muscular system, and nervous system aka the human movement system. We’re going to train you to be the best- for every hour that you learn anatomy, three hours of studying are suggested.
Nutrition, Supplementation, and history of diets You will spend two weeks learning about digestion, the role of supplementation, popular diets (IIFYM, Keto, Paleo, etc.), performance nutrition, and the six nutrients (carbs, fats, protein, water, vitamins, and minerals). We will teach you BMR (basal metabolic rate), protein, and carb calculations. Additional to the course material, you’ll learn how to use ToneUP, a web-based app that Chris developed. This site will calculate all of your equations, macros, and a complete package explaining your goals and if they are realistic.
Movement Assessments There are numerous movement screens that fitness professionals use today. NASM has four in their CPT course, and more than ten in the Corrective Exercise Class. The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) has seven; the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) has ancillary ones. Craig Liebenson has the Mag 7, while Cressey, Starett, Gentilcore, and Dr. Mark Cheng has many more (breathing, performance, and mobility). You will learn how to properly assess movements and be able to screen for more serious injuries that need to be referred to a physician.
Program Design Periodization is the changing of acute variables tailored for individual goals. You will learn how to develop programs via Macro, Meso, and Micro cycles. You will also sit down with Chris to plan the most detailed program specifically for your own goals.
Client Psychology Do you wonder why over 90% of people quit 19-days into their New Year’s Resolution? Why do 95% of diets fail? One of the most important aspects of being a personal trainer is understanding how your client’s mind works. We will cover the Transtheoretical Model of change, address SMART goals, teach you how to overcome client objections, and sell personal training. Yes, personal training is all about sales. The great thing about being a salesperson in the fitness industry, is that your product is yourself. You’ll be able to help your clients look their best naked, move better, increase energy and confidence levels, and make better nutritional choices. Why should you feel apprehensive about selling that?
ACSM Review The American College of Sports Medicine takes a clinical and health based approach to personal training. You’ll be able to screen potential clients according to the ACSM Risk Stratification for coronary artery disease (CAD) AND review a blood lipid profile provided by the client’s health care provider.
NSCA Review The National Strength and Conditioning Association is the gold standard for sports and conditioning. You’ll be able to assess athletes via the needs analysis (bio-energetics, injury prevention, muscle engagement and muscle action spectrum). The NSCA follows the standard protocol for training individuals at the commercial fitness level.
NASM Review & Test Prep The National Academy of Sports Medicine is the most recognizable certification in the industry. The Optimal Performance Training (OPT) is a great model to understand. You’ll be able to help your clients design a systematic approach to their fitness and nutritional goals. We focus our attention on helping you pass the NASM exam (IF YOU CHOOSE TO TAKE IT). Posture and movement is the trend of the fitness industry. We will challenge you to think outside of the box and become the best personal trainer possible.
200-hours if an internship at Show Up Fitness Santa Monica. You’ll shadow certified personal trainers and watch how they train their clients in a 1-1 session as well as small groups. After instructor approval, you’ll be able to teach classes, and train clients that YOU’VE NEVER MET. Other personal training schools make promises such as “LIVE training,” but in actuality, you’re training classmates. At Show Up Fitness Academy, you’ll train people who are overweight, deconditioned, have metabolic disease and all ages.
